PROGRAMMING ALERT:  GAMECHANGERS, the acclaimed, 77 minute sports documentary, is a Black History Month feature on Marquee Sports (https://www.marqueesportsnetwork.com/bhm/), airing six times in the next two weeks, and twice in primetime this coming week.  Details below so please alert your teams and community.

"If you like ESPN's 30 for 30 series, GAMECHANGERS is Chicago's very own version."

Dorothy Gaters, Marshall High School Coach (most wins, IHSA basketball history) & Athletic Director

The film resurrects 8mm game footage of the Marshall vs New Trier SuperSectional match-ups in 1965 and 1966 and brings the rival teams back together 50 years after those contentious games.

"It was great to attend the GAMECHANGERS premiere on the West Side with players and alumni from both Marshall and New Trier. This film is a must watch for IHSA hoop fans.”

Scott Fricke, New Trier HS Coach (just named a top program of the decade in Illinois, 2010-2020, with a 206-92 record)

GAMECHANGERS has appeared at festivals, in theaters, and on local and national TV over the last few years and the associated GameChangers Foundation has awarded over $60,000 in grants and scholarship, primarily to high school students on Chicago's West Side.  For more information on the film and the foundation, including a 2 minute trailer, please visit:  https://www.gamechangers.film/

For your high school athletes that aspire to play at the next level, COVID-19 has complicated the recruiting process in 2021.  To help CPS student athletes during this challenging year, we obtained videos from a number of college coaches where they share advice and encouragement with our kids.

Please check out the MLK Dream Classic website below to see the collection of video messages and encourage your athletes to do the same.  We hope this will be a helpful resource for all high school students, not only juniors and seniors, but freshmen and sophomores too.

AND
STAY SAFE by encouraging all to practice COVID-19 protocols by minimally:
Wearing a mask in public
Watching social distance
Washing hands frequently

COVID-19, to say the least, has impacted our lives like nothing else has in our lifetime. We and our student athletes are anxiously waiting to get the ‘go ahead’ to play and compete in the sport we all so dearly love. The price will be a ‘new normal’, but only if we get everyone to follow the safety guidelines and protocols of our medical and science experts.

For now, this includes:

· Wearing a mask in public settings that covers our nose and mouth.

· Practicing social distancing.

· Washing our hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

· Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.

Practicing these protocols gives us a chance to minimize the risk of COVID-19 and a chance to reduce the infectious level of the virus. But it will not, and cannot, happen without EVERYONE practicing safe protocols. So, let us all (coaches, student-athletes, athletic directors, administrators, educators, parents, families, friends, and whoever is within the sound of our voice or contact) to encourage each other to be safe and have a fighting chance to reach the ‘new normal’

And, while we are at it, let us make an honest effort to respect and love one another.

Be blessed and stay safe.
